How I Built This Blog + Tips to Build a WordPress Website

What’s up! I’m Tristen, your friendly neighborhood web designer and wellness enthusiast. A lot of people ask me how I build sites like Sunsoaked Souls, so here’s what I did to build my blog (and how you can use these tools too). I’ll break down the platform and tools to build a WordPress website. Always straightforward, flexible, and budget-friendly for just about anyone.

Why WordPress + Elementor? The Real Talk

There are tons of website builders out there.  Wix, Squarespace, Shopify, and yeah, they’re super easy to start with. But if you want a site that can grow with your brand, and that you actually own, WordPress is the way to go.

It’s flexible. You’re not locked into a template that looks like everyone else’s. You can tweak layouts, add features, and really make it yours.

It’s affordable! Hosting and domain usually run about $5–15/month, way cheaper than other platforms’ monthly subscriptions (looking at you Wix).

Elementor’s drag-and-drop builder lets you customize without coding. Want to tweak your layout or add new sections? Easy.

It’s SEO-friendly. WordPress makes it easy to get found on Google, especially with plugins like RankMath (hey, that’s what I use!)

The community is huge, too. Lots of tutorials, forums, and support when you need it.

What is Elementor?

Elementor is the drag-and-drop page builder I use on top of WordPress. It lets me design beautiful pages without needing to touch code (but throwing in some CSS and html widgets is always an option!), so I can spend more time focusing on content and less on headaches.

The free version is solid to start, and the Pro upgrade adds some killer features if you want to level up.

What About Wix or Squarespace?

I get it… Wix ads are everywhere, and they look tempting. But those platforms come with higher monthly fees and less control over your site as you grow.

WordPress + Elementor takes a little learning, but it’s worth it. Your site is truly yours! No forced templates, no sneaky fees for features you need. Their is a reason why they are the gold standard among web developers/UI designers.

T’s Quick Tips to Build a WordPress Website

  • Start simple. Build your homepage and blog first. Don’t stress too much about perfection.

  • Pick a solid host like SiteGround or Bluehost for good WordPress support.

  • Use Elementor’s free version to test the waters, then upgrade when ready.

  • Focus on your content and community! Your message matters more than design polish.
